Digital photography uses amazing technologies with new innovations and improvements every year, but for the growing population of analog photographers, digital photography is the opposite of why they choose to shoot with film instead of pixels.

The analog photographer is seeking the experience rather than the perfect quality of pictures. Analog cameras have three main settings: aperture, speed, and iso (film sensitivity) which simplify the user experience while using the camera.

The first step was to study the differences between digital and analog cameras. I looked at professional digital cameras that are extremely advanced for high work efficiency, then looked at more consumer-targeted digital cameras that are more focused on accessibility, and finally looked at analog cameras to see the different ways to change settings.

From my learnings, I started the ideation knowing what elements I wanted to integrate into the camera: I wanted all the settings to be accessible with one hand for rapid changes during a shoot, to use the top screen seen on professional cameras for its low impact but highly informative, and finally, put a focus on the settings that really matter: aperture, speed, and iso.

On the back of the camera, the three buttons are reachable with the right thumb to set the aperture/speed/iso. Tap on one of the buttons and then use the wheel to change the settings. You can see your settings on the screen just directly above the top face of the camera. The top rotating wheel on the right of the screen is to select the shooting mode and to turn the camera On and Off.

The camera is designed to look simple but strong. The top and bottom plates secure the camera body together and reinforce the enclosure. The top plate integrates large camera strap slots for better stability while walking with the camera around the neck.
